The kids worked hard today, writing notes for the ROOTS geo (land, ground, soil) and dict (say, tell). They added a globe and a dictionary to their Interactive Notebooks - ask them about it.
Students also started writing some poems about trees. The assignment is to have trees as a main focus but making a connection to their relationship with salmon was encouraged. They were to use any of the literary devices that they learned about when creating their snow globes. They could also use any form of poetry (rhyming, free style, haikus, diamonte, etc.) We will take a closer look at these formats together in class over the next few days.
In math, we reviewed the long division made easy method first. Then got into some factoring.
We learned about Perfect Numbers, then did some factoring to find the hidden perfect number in their assignment. Finally, we learned about factor trees to find the multiples of prime numbers.
Example: 12 = 3 x 4 = 3 x 2 x 2
They were given two pages and lots of time to draw factor trees for a variety of products. It is due tomorrow.
In French, we made booklets for our next oral presentation, this time about dates.
Title page: Quelle est la date?
Je m'appelle ________.
There are 7 pages in this booklet. On each page, draw a picture to suggest a specific date (see examples) and write the date below the picture.
Example: "C'est lundi le 22, mai 2017"
Students are to use each of the seven days (no repeats), seven different months and numbers, and any year as long as they can say it:)
*Remember that the days and months are always written using lower case; the spellings are correct in the Agenda but the upper case beginnings are incorrect.
Print neatly and present your best effort.
These booklets will be presented next Wednesday!!
**Please remember to return your swimming waiver (on mauve paper)!
