Wow, it's Thursday already!
Today is Library from 8:40-10:00 with Mrs. Tomm. This is a nice block of time so we should be able to get a lot done during Library class. Today the kids were introduced to some new books, and book trailers that can be accessed online through the new library web site. Mrs. Tomm and I will be collaborating to create meaningful activities and research projects related to our curricular focus.
Writing - Today students set up their Language Arts Notebook, a duotang in which to keep key assignments. For example, we began looking at Figurative Language. Today we started with Metaphors; students were assigned the first two pages of a booklet about metaphors. Students will create an informational poster about each Figurative Language addressed, and keep these in their duotang. At the end of the year, they should have a nice summary of key concepts learned in Language Arts.
Math - After checking to see that homework was completely done, we marked / reviewed pp 30-32 (the assigned pages). The next three pages (33-35) were assigned for tomorrow; several students have completed these already.
At 2:00 we went into the computer lab to type up our "If I Were..." assignment. Students who were finished could go onto Mathletics.
*Remember that Mathletics is accessible online at any time; we are working on Place Value and Representing Numbers.
