Library - Today we finished most of the Famous Canadian Power Point presentations - just four people left to present. They are very interesting, and hopefully the students are gaining some valuable skills working with the Power Point program as this will be especially useful in future years.
L10 - Equivalent Fractions and Ordering Fractions - the rest of this package is to be completed for tomorrow! (We didn't get to the colouring sheet noted in their agendas.) The photo shows the three ways to find a common denominator (LCM). (1)skip counting with both numbers until a common number is reached; (2) Ask: What does 6 and 8 both go into evenly? Then multiply both top and bottom accordingly. (3) Make factor trees and find the LCM (Lowest Common Multiple).
We will put 'formal' notes into our Interactive Notebook tomorrow. Hope this helps.
Art - Several students finished their Boreal Forest animal / abstract background project. I will start to put these on the hallway bulletin board for all to see! They are looking wonderful!
In science, students are planning their debate notes for their group's energy source. This will actually fit into our language arts as well, as we will be learning the correct process for debating. Once I find a really good video demonstrating a debate, I will post it to this site. (If you know of one, please let me know:))
REMINDERS:
1) Coins for the Syrian refugee family are being collected in the office. - a slight competition between house teams to see who can bring the most:)
2) The annual Book Drive is taking place for Literacy Day on the 27th. Please bring in any children's books you may wish to 'recycle'. January 27th is also "dress as your favourite book/comic character". this is always fun to see.
