Storm Drain Painting - Wildsight Stewardship program

On Tuesday we hit the streets to paint fish stencils beside storm drains in the Columbia Park neighbourhood.  Mrs. Vickers, with Wildsight, led the students with this stewardship program as part of our "Getting to Know Your Watershed" focus, thanks to the Columbia Basin.  The weather cooperated fully!  Here are some photos of the kids' efforts:

Upon our return to the school, we read the story Raven returns the Water - an Indigenous story about the importance of water, sharing, greed, the water cycle, and many other threads of learning.

We used CPE's lovely new outdoor classroom for the story-telling.

Back in the classroom after lunch, Mrs. Vickers reviewed our three-day program, and the students used the iPads and the Water Footprint Calculator to check their water footprints.

She also treated the kids to watermelon!

It was a wonderful day all told!
