Remember, Remember, the 5th of November;
Gunpowder, treason and plot...
Today, the students learned about Guy Fawkes, along with the famous mask that is used today. We watched a couple of videos to get a brief overview of his plot to blow up the English parliament buildings in the 1600s.
First thing this morning, however, Ms. Draboczi organized a Living Library experience for the intermediate grades. The students visited different booths set up in our gym, and learned about Bear Aware, Parks Canada, the Hospice, the Humane Society, and Stoke Youth. I was very impressed by the students' interest and respectful behaviour during their time at each booth.
This afternoon, the students sorted cut out lines (some single, some in twos) of the poem In Flanders Fields. Although we hear this poem every year, it takes some doing to put the lines together in their correct order.
Next, we started to read A Bloom of Friendship, a story about Canada's connection to the Netherlands during World War II. We will continue this tomorrow.
Book exchange was today, so we had some time at the end of the day for silent reading.
Please remember to send some change for poppies to be worn at the Remembrance Day assembly on Friday (10:30, if you wish to attend). There will not be any school Monday but perhaps we'll see you at the cenotaph.
