Happy First School Day of December!  And what a beautiful, powdery snowy day it was.  Here's what we got up to inside in the warmth of our classroom:

After  a "Crazy Santa" warm-up, the kids were wound up and full of energy.  We went through the Greek and Latin U3 words for our spelling program this week.  Students had a lot of time to work on their package; many completed it already.  Tomorrow we will do the last page together.
We also read about two more Famous Failures: Henry Ford and Walt Disney.  Ask your child about these two "failures".

During Math we reviewed representing 4-digit numbers five different ways.  Then the students used place value die to generate their own numbers and practice each of the five ways.  Their partners were to check their work.

Meanwhile, I had students, one-on-one, choose cards from a deck to generate a 4-6 digit number.  They then said the number to me, identified each of the place values, and the values of each digit in their number.

For the last fifteen minutes before lunch, we played the Inventors game where the teams try to answer difficult or easy questions for points.

After lunch, we had a whole school Assembly, followed by "Plangendas", writing spelling words into their Plangendas, and silent reading before Science.

During Science, we started to learn "Why Leaves Change Colour".  We read through, discussed, highlighted and drew pictures to help us remember.

Grade 3's took home the ski form today!  Please read it carefully and sign and/or initial the parts highlighted in pink.  These forms must be filled out accurately. Thank you.
