Good evening.  Thanks to those of you parents who do check this out.

Here's what our day looked like today:

We didn't read a story this morning - just listened to Six White Boomers by Rolf Harris. This related to our Christmas Around the World focus on Australia.

Today's focus was Brazil.  We reinforced our new-found knowledge about the hemispheres and directions while learning about where Brazil is located in the world, and a bit about the Christmas traditions of its people.  We will continue working on the package tomorrow.

After recess, we did a couple of "Drills That Thrill" to practice our rounding to the nearest tenth.  Those who were unsure at the onset of the lesson felt quite comfortable by the end!
Following that, we added some notes to our Math Interactive Notebooks.  This was simply a review about looking at numbers: the ten digits in our number system, place value and value of digits.

For the remainder of Math class, students strengthened their ability to add several 2-3 digit numbers together, most problems requiring "carrying" or "renaming".   For the grade threes, this was especially challenging as they have had little experience with starting to add the ones first so that the "tens" can be carried over.

After lunch, we looked a little closer at "The Greenhouse Effect": what it means and how it is caused.  We will continue this tomorrow.

There are some big words in here, and the article itself is old, but it explains the greenhouse effect quite well.
