We had a good first day back, starting with rearranging our desk configuration and seating. Admittedly, some had to be moved by the end of the day but we gave it another try.
We looked at our spelling words for the week, focusing on the short e and long e sounds and spelling combinations.
Students wrote out their words using a different colour for each spelling pattern. As usual, there will be a spelling / vocabulary "quizette" on Friday.

After recess, our math focus was subtraction involving borrowing or "renaming" as it is also called. The students did amazingly well, working diligently on the first page. Then, they practiced their subtraction fluency playing "subtraction war" with a partner.
After lunch, I read Raven Returns the Water, and we considered aspects of the legend and how they fit into the water cycle. Next, we did an activity called The Incredible Journey where students were water molecules and moved from station to station, depending upon the role of their dice. Students had a string for beads and a 'map' on which to trace their journey. [See photos below and have your child explain.]
