Welcome to our Amazing Monday!
With four students in attendance, see our day's agenda below.
Idiom of the Week:
We started our morning with a Maze practice - part of the Readwell program.
Then students were introduced to Similes. We read through some together, identifying what was being compared, how they were similar, and what simile words were being used.
For example: The kitten's teeth were as sharp as knives.
1) Teeth and knives are being compared as both being sharp.
2) "as ... as" is what identifies this as a simile.
3) Another possibility for a simile could be: The kitten's teeth were like knives. In this case, the word "like" is what makes this a simile.
The students wrote some of their own which they handed in.
During Math class and after the multiplication drills, we reviewed telling the time. We read "Fifteen Minutes of Pie" to emphasize the saying of "a quarter after or a quarter past the hour". We then created a clock with pertinent information on it for our Circle Books. [see photo]
In the afternoon, the students worked hard before and after P.E. on an article entitled Asking Mr. Aims. [see below]
We read through this, highlighted and discussed, then they answered the questions about working in a rock quarry and about the three types of rocks. We have a small selection of rocks in the classroom and a very good reference pamphlet so had some fun categorizing rocks.
All in all, it was an amazing day. We learned a lot and had fun to boot!
