 Gilakas'la!

In Language Arts, we learned some common winter-themed idioms to use for our snow globes.  This took a while but students are well on their way.  We do a weekly idiom in the class so they are getting to know idioms fairly well.

In Math, we explored the difference between multiplication equations 2 x 5 = 10 and 5 x 2 = 10.  We used arrays to show the different meaning of each  ______ groups of _________.  Students added notes to their Interactive Notebooks.

Also during Math class, we created arrays for the square numbers 1 to 12.  *A number times itself will create a square array, hence their names. This should really help with multiplication and later, division.  It will also help down the road with square roots!

In the afternoon, we added to our colour wheel umbrella art pieces that
we started yesterday.  These are our works in progress:

The students mixed their own colours from the primary colours red, yellow and blue to make the secondary colours purple,  green and orange.  Because there are eight sections on the umbrella, they had to also decide what tertiary colours they would make.

They did a super job!

In Science today, students were introduced to Neurons: nerve cells in the brain.  They created models using modelling clay after colouring and labelling a diagram.   We will continue labelling the models and learning more about them in the days to come.
