Better late than never:

Math - We did another set of Elapsed Time task cards; these seemed easier than the previous set.  Most students are getting quite efficient with elapsed time!

Language Arts - We added phon to our roots Interactive Notebook, with a megaphone for reference.

Science - We continued to read about Energy (Wile E. Coyote's attempts to capture Road Runner) and to complete a worksheet.
Mr. Pfeiffer took the kids to PE after lunch!

Tina came in and students worked on banners, props, and sets.  They were very productive yesterday, painting, cutting out, gluing, sawing, drilling and screwing a little fire together.   Things are really coming together.

Good day, folks.

Our time at school is very busy and somewhat hectic these days.  Working on the Salmon Connection play is a daily occurrence, whether we are working on songs, lines, or making props and painting sets.  My entries have become sporadic, depending upon how tired I am at the end of the day:)

We continue to work on banners: drawing, painting, and outlining.  They are looking beautiful and will really add to the backdrop of our play.

The kids wrote a math: "Show me what you know" quiz today, demonstrating their understanding of long division step by step, the long division made easy method, and checking answers using multiplication.  The questions are posed in word problems to add to make things more meaningful.

Reminder: We have swimming tomorrow afternoon!  It's our last one of the four week sessions.

Sports day: Friday is sports day!  It may be hot so wear layers, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen! Water bottles should be labeled, too.

On Monday there will be a bike rodeo as we kick off Bike to Work / School week.  Students are urged to ride their bikes or scooters, and to please wear helmets!!

There is lots to tell you about today.  We started our morning with a math pop-quizzette. (It doesn't sound too intimidating, does it?) Quizzes are a good opportunity for kids to see just how well they understand something when they can't ask for help.  So far the marking shows a good understanding overall... just a few things to iron out tomorrow.

We spent the rest of the morning drawing and painting our salmon designs onto our t-shirts for the show Friday night.  They are looking fantastic!  Tina came in to help with these.

After lunch and attendance, we headed for the pool for the first of four swimming lessons with all of the grade fives (36!).  We arrived back at the school in time for dismissal:)

We did a lot of art today.  Mrs. Strange came in after recess to finish up a class mosaic project for Earth Day.  Today, the students used water colour paints to complete their sections.  The combined project is below.

In the afternoon, Tina came in and, working with a broken ankle, finished up the fish banners, and started the kids painting the black outlines on one of the banners.  Next week we will add colour to them!! We can hardly wait!

We also did some math today: division drills and reviewing factors from yesterday.

Next, we added to our Immigration lap book: Union Jack flag and notes.

Some time was given for students to work on their French booklets.  Presentations are on Wednesday for the Quelle est la date?  booklets.

We also worked on the tree poems, finishing the quilt squares (art additions).

We had a very art-filled day today.
Mrs. Strange was in first thing to help students with their Canadian Artists painting projects. This is a huge help... the students are so lucky to have expert advice!  We continued painting even after Mrs. Strange's time in our class was up.

After recess, Tina came in to work on banner designs.  Students completed the images that were still needed for the banners.  Tina even started one of the banners, transferring one group's image of a residential school to a banner.  Students will be adding images / faces to the windows.

 

 

 

*Autumn's mom came in to help with this as well, which is very much appreciated!!

As students finished their contributions to the banners, they continued to work on their woven trees. Some finished today; several others are close.

After lunch, we went to P.E. to develop some volleyball skills, then back to class for Agendas, math, and book exchange.

Math - we marked #4, 5, and 6 of the multiplication (Math Antics) package.  We also reviewed how to check one's work using the area model method.  Then I showed them how to check their answers using the digital root method.  The next four problems were assigned for homework; some finished them during class time.
