Greetings!

Fridays are always busy, and today was no exception.
So busy, in fact, that I forgot to take a picture of the daily plan.

We had a spelling quiz in the morning... these kids are getting really good at identifying Greek and Latin roots, and using related words in sentences.  Their favourite latin phrase is ad nauseam!

We didn't do math because we had letter writing to do.  These need to get sent off in the mail so are somewhat of a priority.

Today was the last session of Explorations for the fall; the next series will begin in the spring.  Here are a couple of pieces from our multi-media class.  I am mindful not to put photos of students on here, just their work.

This scene started off with melted crayons for a backdrop, then went from there.

Happy Friday!

We always end on such a high note with Explorations, and for me specifically, Multi-Media Art!

Today we used watercolour pencil crayons to create feathers.  Photos are posted below.

First, though, our class wrote their Spelling / Vocabulary Quiz for Unit 1.  With a focus on vocabulary and not simply spelling, the students had a new experience.

Following that, we reviewed the wolf / communicator reflections from Wednesday; some students reworked theirs.

Math was short today, with a quick addition drill and an introduction (for most but not all) to Suduko.  All was quiet for several minutes while they focused on them:)

After that, we reviewed the Water Cycle (aka Hydrological Cycle) and related vocabulary.
Then we started to draw out the cycle but were not able to finish it today.

PAC organized a wonderful sushi / teriyaki chicken lunch from Kawakubo's which was a real treat.

This afternoon was Explorations!  Not everyone is finished, but here's a look:

MULTI-MEDIA CREATIONS - Exploration Friday Sept. 29/17

Today was discussing what multi-media is, watching a powerpoint to generate ideas, looking at a couple of book illustrations for ideas, creating a folded booklet for ideas and reflection, and finally a quick project involving monster making!  [Click on photos to enlarge them.]

It's Friday already!  Our week went very quickly, with all our field trips, district track and field events, and Exploration Friday to end it.

Most of the class headed to the track to compete with AHE and BVE. I saw a lot of ribbons when they returned; the Grade 5 boys got first for the relay, and the girls got second!  Wow, I think it's the best that our school has done for a couple of years:)

The rest of us stayed behind and worked on props and the set for the play. some students also worked on their simple machines assignments which are due Monday.
Cooper and Micah paint the tree.
This crew is drying a strip of water with the hair dryer.

Tina chalk lined the design onto the Tsimshian plank house.

Water up close.

The fish left yesterday, so the tank was cleaned out today.

In the afternoon, we had Exploration Friday.  Below are some photos of my art class; students started pastel - scratch pictures.  Only one more class before the year's end.  The photos below show artwork at various stages, none complete yet.

UPCOMING QUIZZES:
Roots - matching quiz (/17)
Energy, Work, Force Quiz
Simple Machines - 2 assignments (info pkg and EdHeads pkg) - Quiz based on these assignments

Math Diagnostic coming up (no prep for this one)
