Happy Groundhog Day!  I haven't heard whether or not it saw its shadow so will be wondering tonight!

After reviewing our Personification work from yesterday, students were introduced to Alliteration.  We read a story together on Epic Books, then they read another to themselves on Epic Books: Chips and Cheese and Nana's Knees,  which they really enjoyed.

Yes, we used the iPads for the first time today!  The kids were very excited about this.  They read on Epic Books, and later went on to IXL to practice their Time-related skills during Math.

This afternoon, we were busy with science: learning more about neurons.  We also got caught up on labeling the model neurons, put some finishing touches on their colour wheel umbrella art work, and learned some more "Zentangle" designs.

We did manage to get outside today, also, for a bit. It doesn't look like much but we were pretty busy getting set up with the computers and also keeping track of our elapsed time for subjects throughout the day.

There's a new Scholastic book order out - your child has it.

Good evening, folks.  I almost forgot to do this, and erased the agenda before taking a photo.

Here's a brief description of our day:

We started this morning reading The Three Sisters, an Iroquois legend about Corn, Bean and Squash. This ties in nicely with our gardening experience at Mount Cartier Court, and an upcoming art project.

During Library, students learned some tips about using WORD as they continued typing up their Knots on a Counting Rope.

During Math, the students worked with a random partner at various stations.  Each station focused on a concept that we have been practicing: patterns, money, graphing, odds and evens, and addition war.  The kids were on-task and enjoyed rotating to the different stations.

We got to try the dehydrated pears from the other day!

During science, we continued our focus on different forms of energy, as well as what watts and kilowatts are, and how they are used to calculate our hydro bills.

Below are a few pictures of students at their math stations.

HAPPY FRIDAY!  Here's what our day looked like:

Importance Assignment Notice: All of the C Level projects for Holes must be completed and tested before January 31st.  I will accept Level B and A assignments by this date as well, but the end of the month is the cut off.  There are still a few students still reading the novel; this should be finished by Monday so that the quiz can be written and the projects for C Level worked on. Please support your child as needed.

BOOK CHARACTER DAY is January 25th.  Come dressed as your favourite book character, and remember to carry the book with you!

This afternoon marked the beginning of the second series of Exploration Friday.  I have decided to post photos from my Multi-Media Creations sessions separately for easy access.   Check them out!

Enjoy your weekend.

November 1st, 2017 Day After Halloween!

We survived the day after Halloween!  With that in mind, please do not send a bunch of candy with your child for recess / lunch snack.  It makes it very difficult for the rest of us to teach and learn.  Thank you for keeping an eye on this situation.

We were very noisy today so didn't make it to PE first thing.  We did some extra math, however, using task cards to review representing numbers.

Homework Assignment: The kids were asked to sort and count their candy so that they can create bar graphs to represent their haul.  Eleven students brought their data to school today; the others need to have it for tomorrow please.

We read a short story called "Halloween Leftovers"; students are working on answering questions related to the story.  More time will be given tomorrow to complete this activity.

This afternoon the kids had music with Mr. Redding.  He discussed the Christmas concert with them, including our song.

We also had Library with Mrs. Tomm.  The kids finished their Inspiration webs about a famous figure on our money.  When done, they started to work on their parody / song or drama skit about Phases of Matter.  The one we looked at in school was "Johnny Atom" sung to The Brady Bunch theme song.
[See the separate blog entry for that link.]

Reminder: Immigration Projects are due Monday as well.  Presentations will be taking place throughout the week.

Please note the following reminder for early dismissal next week and 'no school days' later in November.  For the Student-led conferences on the 7th and 8th, I will be have an open house (not set times needed) from 1:00 - 5:00 for both of those days.  Hope this works for you.  I look forward to seeing you and having your child discuss their learning with you.
