Happy New Year!

Welcome back, everyone:)

We have a new student, Max.  His family is here from Germany; he will be with us until Spring Break.
Happy New Year!!  All the best for 2016!

After challenging the students to a couple of math word problems to awaken their brains this morning, they wrote an entry in their Journal about their Christmas break and a New Year's resolution they have set for themselves.

Spelling - I am going to use a formal spelling unit for this portion of the school year.  This week's focus is on consonant sounds.  We are also reviewing spelling rules and focussing on comprehension. The worksheets are to be done by Wednesday; the Quiz will be on Thursday, and will address spelling, comprehension, and use of words.

During math, we reviewed what we were learning before the break.  This included the following (see photo):
Prime vs Composite numbers
Fractions (basic)
Factoring ("un-multiplying")
Factor Trees (to find the product of prime numbers)
Finding the LCM of a set of numbers (Least Common Multiple)
Finding GCF of a set of numbers (Greatest Common Factor)

The students' practice / assignment is below:
1) Draw factor trees for 24, 81, and 62
2) Find the GCF for these sets:  (a) 24, 60     (b) 30, 75
3) Find the LCM of 9 and 30

After music with Mr. Rogers, we went to the computer lab to finish the Famous Canadian Power Point projects.  We will begin our presentations Thursday!

Have a good evening!
