Happy First Day of March!
What a productive day we had! We started our morning marking the double bar graph that was assigned yesterday. Then, the students were given a graph package to complete: 3 pages of interpreting information and one page of creating a double bar graph using the set data. This is due tomorrow.
In Language Arts we first marked the Capitalization worksheet form yesterday, the went over the Hard & Fast Rules of Commas. We glued the latter set of notes into our Interactive Notebook, and a worksheet was given (six sentences) for tomorrow.
*Quite a bit of class time was given for both the math and L.A., assignments today.
*We didn't get to the Parts of Speech crossword; that will be assigned tomorrow instead (in case you see this in their Agenda). We also did not get to present our French booklets today, but did review the pronunciation of classroom items.
Science - Mrs. Vickers was sick today so Beyond Recycling was postponed. We continued reading the "I am a Mining Engineer" story, stopping to do the math regarding mine calculations. The kids did a good job thinking these problems through. I took a picture of the calculations we did when we reviewed it together; these should be written on every student's worksheet. (see below)
We ended the day talking about the importance of mining in Canada. We will be doing a research project about a mining community (past or present) in Canada. I will write up a project description with options for project ideas; the kids are helping me with this. It all stemmed from Kristian bringing in an armadillo carved from coal!! The projects will be a lot of fun!
