Happy "Terrific Tuesday", and welcome back, Kaya!  We look forward to hearing all about your adventures.

After marking the perimeter worksheets from last week, we watched a MathAntics video about Decimal Place Values, then did a step-by-step exercise sheet.  Following that, students received a four page booklet which many completed during the allotted time.  The students worked amazingly well this morning (all day, in fact) and accomplished a lot:)  *The video can be watched by clicking on the Math Antics website linked to this blog, or going straight to the website itself.

After recess, we read a very short article about the Spanish Armada and practiced summarizing.  Students were then assigned one (#21) about the lighthouse Pharos, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. They wrote short summaries about the article and some students chose to share theirs.  We will continue some more of these; they are beneficial on many levels including the tidbits of information about a variety of topics they provide.

Next, we reviewed the Literary Device: Similes.  The students have a package of similes to practice, and will be making their own for a winter-themed snow globe.  Only the front & back of the first page is assigned for tomorrow.

After lunch, we went to P.E., did Agendas, had time for some silent reading, did book exchange, and finally practiced the Log Driver's Waltz song and dance.

At some point during the day, a dead bird was found outside by some of the students.  Jack looked it up and we identified it as a Sparrow Hawk.  (pic below)  It was frozen solid but thawed out in the classroom.  It is now in the fridge for tomorrow's activity.
