Howdy. Here's our eventful day, after starting with Brain Dance:
In science / language arts this morning we first looked Atoms! The article is a brief overview of how scientists' understanding of the composition of matter (atoms) came to be. Read your child's worksheet; we labeled the parts together. We now what quarks are as in: Quirks and Quarks on CBC radio!
Next we read together "Why Does Matter Matter?" During our reading (which gives me a chance to listen to individuals read aloud) we are learning how to pick out important information to highlight and/or make notes as we go through an informational piece of writing. As I say, we do this together with further discussion as we go. The next two pages were assigned to be completed for tomorrow.
Mr. Redding took the kids to PE just before recess.
After recess, we started with Fact Families for addition and subtraction. Then we did a one-minute subtraction drill, the results of which were added to their individual bar graphs. We also discussed strategies to use when subtracting (mental math).
The third thing we did in math was to add notes to our Interactive Notebooks about five ways to Represent Numbers: standard form, expanded form, in words, place value chart, and base ten model.
The students had a bit of time after this to complete Agendas, work on their science package, and read when done.
After lunch we got to work on our art cards. We practiced drawing different birds (their choice) on rough copies to get the dimensions and balance right for the real thing.
Also during this art time, students completed a reflection about our recent Halloween Inchies projects.
Enjoy your evening.
