We started off with Brain Dance, then a follow up with the cloze activity (fill in the blanks) about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We learned about Thoreau, Gandhi, and what Jim Crow Laws are. We read a book written by Martin Luther King Jr.'s sister, listened to an excerpt of his speech and Mahalia Jackson's song, and learned a little about Washington's National Mall. You can check out these videos and books at the previous post about Dr. King.
After gym and recess, we had a special guest in our class. Meagan Noel is teaching the kids about Financial Literacy through a "Young Achievers" pilot program. She will join us for three more sessions in all. Ask your child what they learned today about money, deposits, withdrawals, and balances.

This afternoon, we practiced perspective drawing of railway tracks, fences, and telegraph poles. This is challenging as there is so much to keep in mind as our illustrations move toward a vanishing point.
Some pictures that we looked at for discussion and inspiration are below.
