Sorry for the late post, folks.  I just finished a "Coaching Café" session which involved meeting with teachers from within the district to discuss various books we had read about formative assessment. My focus was on building portfolios.

We had a very exciting morning learning a new skill taught by two young people from our Little Buddies class.  Unfortunately, although I have pictures and everything, I can't share them because they are supposed to be a surprise for Mothers' Day.  Sorry!  I will post them Monday on a separate entry.  [A big "thank you" to Mrs. Voykin who divided up the yarn for us!  Hint Hint:)]

After recess, I re-read The Huge Bag of Worries (see below) because the grade fours were not present for last week's PAUSE session.  Then, we brainstormed different worries that we might have.  Next, we started to organize them, considering how much control we might have over them.  We didn't get too far with this approach but we did have some great discussions.

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch.  After lunch, the grade fives had PAUSE for Mental Health with Nikki Lussier, Mrs. Hall and me.  The notice below is what we covered today; your child also has a copy in his/her agenda.

Below are some pictures of some of the students doing the red and green light sabres activity.  Ask your child about this, too.

Last thing in the day, we watched a video about Fractions as Division on MathAntics.  Then we worked through some examples and the kids finished up their packages.  The assignment simply involved writing division problems three different ways.  The photo below shows them for "five divided by eight".
