After doing "The Monster Mash" for a warm up, we began our study of Greek and Latin Roots. The following is an image of the front page of a small package. Many students submitted it already; they were asked to attempt the crossword, at least. We will review it tomorrow, and complete the little study cards at the back of their package. The purpose of these activities is to expose students to word roots, to both build and break down vocabulary as they focus on spelling and meaning.
Students also worked on their Personal Coat of Arms Reflections, now that we have completed the presentations.
During Math after recess, I worked the kids hard:) First, we organized our Drills That Thrill notebooks with new worksheets. Then, we set up a bar graph on which to record daily results of our addition drills. Next, we did a two-minute drill to see how well we know our addition facts with some regrouping. After marking their own, students recorded today's results on their bar graph.
After all that, students added notes about "What is Mathematics?" in their interactive notebooks.
Following lunch, "Plangendas", and Silent Reading, we learned more about how oil is created and
what it is used for. Many students submitted their finished worksheet packages this afternoon.
Some students managed to get started on their Hallowe'en art project even.
