Welcome to the month of December!
I forgot to post yesterday so here are the two days combined:
December 1st was "Giving Day" so we started our day reading The Giving Tree, a Traditional Métis story. Unfortunately, I filed the book before taking a photo of its cover. Sorry!
Yesterday, we started to read the classic story Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. Like Owls in the Family, this is a true story. We did a quick story review together today of Owls in the Family, identifying the setting, main character(s), theme, conflict, as well as writing a recommendation and a brief description of a favourite part.
Students also worked at their various levels of ReadWell today, when the above was done.
In math, we continue to strengthen addition and subtraction facts with daily drills (2 minutes for some, and 1 minute 30 seconds for others). Students also practiced adding and subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers involving carrying or borrowing; we marked these together today. *Tomorrow will be a quick quiz where students will work independently to show their understanding.
Yesterday, in math, students also added notes in their Interactive Notebooks about how to represent a 4-digit number five different ways.
In the afternoon, students practiced various activities to help them prepare for the Canada quiz tomorrow. This includes labeling the provinces, territories, three oceans and Hudson Bay.
In Art, we did a directed drawing of the Grinch, and started to paint him. Some photos show the beginning stages of this project.
Wednesday afternoon is our class's time for Culture; today they went to the Big House with Isaiah.
I am pleased with the children's enthusiasm about our school's recycling program. They are doing a great job collecting compost and sorting the blue bins from each classroom!
QUIZ NOTICE: Math (see above) and Social Studies (Canada - see above).
