We started out with a plan but things happened; here's our very busy day...

Mr. Smith came in as TTOC for Mrs. Strange who normally comes in to support our art efforts in the class.  This morning the kids painted the black outlines on two of our banners.  Other students added the graphics for three more roots to their Interactive Notebook: graph, hydr, and ject.  We will add the definitions and examples tomorrow.  Once these were cut out and glued into their books, some students finished math from yesterday (prime factorization) while others worked on their French booklets (la date) which are due tomorrow.  Jackie and Autumn helped tremendously as I stuck each of them at a banner and they were in charge of showing the others what to do!  Thank you!!

After recess, Mr. Pfeiffer did the Ministry's satisfaction survey; the kids used iPads to complete them.

Then, we glazed the clay spawners which I brought back from the RSS kiln yesterday. They are now packed up again and ready to go back to RSS tomorrow for another firing.

After lunch, we headed outside for P.E. (Capture the Flag) in the field, then back in to the computer lab to type up the Tree poems students have been working on.

That, Folks, was our very busy day.

Friday, January 20, 2017 / C'est vendredi le 20, janvier 2017

Here's a rather late post for Friday:

A Teacher-on-call was in for me in the morning, but this was they did:

-started off with an Assembly

-worked on onomatopoeia project; some finished

-worked on a fun French colouring sheet to reinforce des couleurs

-completed and marked / reviewed the Metric Conversion worksheet E (both sides) in preparation for the QUIZ MONDAY!

-completed Agendas and cleaned out their desks before lunch in preparation of Exploration Friday in the afternoon (Art, Drama, Technology)

REMINDER: The following letter was meant to go home Friday but it did not.  My apologies for the late reminder.

Dear Parents / Guardians,

As you are aware, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th next week are early dismissal days to provide time to meet with parents to discuss their child’s progress.  If you would like to meet with me, please contact the office (250 837 4744) to secure a time.

Respectfully,
Sue Leach

*The ALEVINS have turned into FRY!  It means that now we have to feed them, and they can have their front barrier removed so we get to watch them.  Here's a photo.

Happy morning after... the Christmas Concert!  We didn't get to see much of the concert but I felt that our kids performed beautifully:)  Well done, ladies and loggers!  A special thanks to Mr. Redding who pulled it all together.  That's a huge job, especially given that he has two other elementary schools.

We started our morning with the fire lit in the fireplace and lovely traditional Christmas tunes playing softly in the background.
Today's summarizing practice was about "blends" - two words put together to form a new word: gleam + shimmer = glimmer; breakfast + lunch = brunch.  The kids came up with a few as well.

After sharing some summaries, the students learned about metaphors and did some practice sheets. Only three of the six pages were assigned for tomorrow (any three); the rest will be worked on tomorrow.  Students will be asked to create a winter-themed metaphor for their snow globe, as well.

After recess, Tina came in with our half-baked salmon.  The clay salmon have been dipped and fired in a kiln once; today the kids painted them with glaze.  Everyone was here today so they are headed for the kiln tomorrow.  We can hardly wait to see the results!

After lunch, we headed for the gym (half gym) where we played a variety of tag games.  It is great seeing the kids all play so nicely together.

Then back to the classroom for a page of math (finding the unknowns), Agendas, book exchange, silent reading, and some even worked on their metaphor sheets or French booklets.

These French booklets are due tomorrow - presentations will begin!

Animal summaries need to be handed by Friday, please, so that I can mark them over the holidays!

Ms. Butler popped in to say that the alevins were hatching!! (She has an aquarium in the K/1 class, as well.) Aren't they cute?

REMINDERS:
Holiday Train tonight @ 6 pm.
Plan Canada, Doctors Without Borders etc., due Thursday if contributing.
